Firefighter I / EMT III or Paramedic - Central Emergency Services - Closes 10/09/20

Under the general direction and supervision of the Central Emergency Service (CES) Fire Chief or his designee, the Firefighter I performs emergency procedures in order to preserve and maintain life and property.  Firefighters are also responsible for maintaining facilities, apparatus and equipment.
 
ResidencyThe Firefighter I must reside within at least a 15 minute response time by roadway to the nearest department fire station.

Effective 7/1/20:
Firefighter I/EMT III: Base pay $20.12/hr $58,589.44/annual*
Firefighter I/Paramedic: Base pay $23.15/hr $67412.80/annual*


*Additional pay incentives for professional pay, based on department need and union contract, may be earned

Posting has been extended effective 9/17/20.  Posting will result in hiring two positions.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Minimum Qualifications:
EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma or GED
WORK EXPERIENCE:
  • One (1) year of paid or volunteer structural firefighting experience
CERTIFICATIONS and LICENSING:
  • IFSAC or State of Alaska Firefighter I
  • Required level of EMS certification as noted on posting. This minimum level must be maintained as a condition of employment.
  • A valid, unrestricted Alaska driver's license
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications:
  • Experience as a volunteer firefighter with Central Emergency Services
  • College degree in Fire or EMS-related science
EMT III and EMT III / ACLS / Expanded Scope - Certifications and Licensing:
  • IFSAC or State of Alaska Firefighter I
  • State of Alaska – EMT III or National Equivalent (AEMT)
  • ADD- American Heart Association-Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Expanded Scope Criteria
  • A valid, unrestricted Alaska driver's license
PARAMEDIC - Certifications and Licensing:
  • State of Alaska – Mobile Intensive Care Paramedic (MICP) or
  • National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians – Paramedic (NRP) and obtain State of Alaska - MICP within 12-month probationary period.
*Shall successfully complete CES Paramedic 2 training and testing within 24 months.
